UAB Center

The Universidade Aberta do Brasil (UAB) [Open University of Brazil] is a system of public higher education institutions focused on offering distance learning programs in articulation with the municipal, state and federal spheres.

UAB provides an opportunity for people who live away from the big cities to pursue online degrees, thus expanding the access to public higher education and promoting regional development. It is mainly  targeted at teacher training, in order to meet the needs of teachers working in basic education schools across the country without proper training.

The system is managed by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), in accordance with Ordinance no. 318/MEC/2009.
